Cost savings through carbon footprinting
The adoption of lean manufacturing concepts can help to reduce your company’s carbon footprint by as much as 20% and can also put you on the path to make real cost savings, delegates at the Lean Footprint Masterclass were told recently.
ukfirst have introduced a new masterclass for 2008; focused on assisting the furniture industry to gain a “leaner carbon footprint”, the first of which was held last week in Coventry.
David Storer, ukfirst Master Engineer led the day focused on the local and global impact of carbon emissions on the environment, 7 wastes within a business and how to make radical cost savings in line with environmental improvements. “A carbon reduction programme can help to pinpoint the main processes that can affect your carbon footprint and make bottom line savings”.
A demonstration of the newly launched Furniture FootprinterTM tool was shown to delegates which has been developed in partnership with leading environmental consultants, Best Foot Forward. This is the next generation carbon accounting tool, which calculates a footprint especially focused on materials and processes used in the furniture industry. Phil Wilson, FIRA Environmental Consultant attended the session and said; “What makes this carbon accounting tool unique is the benefit of gaining a footprint independently verified by FIRA.”
The afternoon sessions allowed delegates to discuss the impact of carbon footprinting on their own businesses and devise improvement strategies for the future. One delegate commented, “This session has been useful in gaining a better understanding of where we are and what will be required regarding C02 and waste reduction.”
For those of you that missed out, ukfirst are holding another Lean Footprint Masterclass on Wednesday 1st October at FIRA, Stevenage. To book a place on this free event, please contact Alex Woodfield on 01438 777801 or email .
