Frequently Asked Questions
I am a large UK furniture manufacturer with a number of sites. Is there a limit to the number of process improvement activities available to us through ukfirst?
The short answer is "No". BERR (formally the DTI) has agreed to part fund about 50 process improvement master classes and we will operate on a first come first served basis. Once the funding has finished we will still be able to offer this support but there will no longer be a subsidy and the cost will increase. The message is to book early to avoid disappointment!
We are small manufacturers and find it difficult to see what ukfirst has to offer us.
ukfirst has set out to offer a range of programmes to suit all sectors within the furniture industry as well as all sizes of company whether large, medium or small. For very small companies it is recognised that a full 15-day process improvement workshop may prove to be impractical and costly. For this reason we have established process improvement programmes that are better suited to small furniture manufacturers. In addition many of the other activities such as industry knowledge transfer visits, education packages and best practise recommendations are equally applicable to large and small companies. However, if you still need to be persuaded we recommend that you contact us and discuss your company’s needs. We will be pleased to develop a tailor-made package for yourself, your company and your staff.
How much does it cost to join your organisation?
Whilst BERR and FIRA continue to finance the programmes there will be no fee for joining ukfirst. All that we ask is that you supply us with your full contact details and the names of directors or senior managers that have a responsibility for operations and manufacturing. We will then ensure that you are kept updated with the latest courses, events and support activities. In addition you will be eligible to receive reports (e.g. best practise recommendations, supply chain improvements etc) and newsletters. By registering with us there is nothing to lose yet plenty to gain.
How does BERR and FIRA funding benefit manufacturers?
ukfirst has been established to introduce world class techniques to the UK furniture To achieve this, the very best expertise is required to assist industry with process improvements and we aim to partner with individuals and organisations that are able to deliver to this level. This expertise is valued highly in the marketplace and, through government and FIRA support, we are able to offer many programmes at what is, effectively, half price.
